How to Keep a Little Journal of Life With Your Pet
Some of the best pet stories are small: a favorite sunny spot, an amusing expression, or the first time a new routine feels familiar. A pet journal is a simple way to notice those moments without turning them into a project.

Choose a format you will actually use
A notebook, a photo album, or a note on your phone can all work. Pick the easiest option. There is no need for perfect handwriting, elaborate layouts, or a daily entry.
Start with three small details
Write the date, one thing you noticed, and one moment you enjoyed. For example: “Tuesday. Luna chose the window seat again. We spent a quiet evening together.” Ordinary details often become the memories you appreciate later.
Give photographs a little context
A short caption can explain why a picture matters. Add the location or occasion when it is useful, but avoid sharing private address details if you post the image publicly. Keep the original images backed up somewhere you can access.
Separate memories from care notes
You may also want a practical place for appointment dates, care instructions, and questions for your veterinarian. Keep those records clearly labeled so you can find them quickly. A journal is not a way to diagnose a health or behavior concern.
Let everyone contribute
Invite family members to add a drawing, a favorite picture, or a sentence. Different people notice different things. If you share a story online, ask permission before including someone else’s name or photograph.
Begin with one memory today. Your pet does not need a perfect scrapbook; a few honest lines can capture a life full of small, meaningful moments.
