Keeping Dog Enrichment Toys Clean Between Sessions

Food residue can hide inside an enrichment toy even when the outside looks tidy. Build cleaning into the activity so the next session starts with ready-to-use equipment.

Check the instructions first

Different plastics, rubber parts, and fabrics require different care. Do not assume that a dishwasher-safe claim applies to every piece in a product range. KONG lists dishwasher care for the Wobbler; follow the current product instructions for placement and disassembly. Avoid using damaged parts simply because they have been cleaned.

Make a practical drying space

Keep pet equipment away from the area where you prepare human food. Wash items as directed, rinse thoroughly, and allow them to dry before closing or storing them. A labeled tray can help you distinguish ready toys from those waiting to be cleaned. Keep detergents and brushes where your dog cannot reach them.

Reduce the number in circulation

If cleaning several toys feels burdensome, use a smaller collection. Inspect openings and joins while cleaning, and retire an item when the manufacturer’s replacement guidance says to do so. Choose products you can realistically maintain. A toy that is easy to inspect and clean may suit your routine better than a complicated design.
